when you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are…

This night I am on the beach within reason, enjoying an ocean view.  Day or night, you can gaze at the beauty around and above. Wishes like fishes will not jump in your boat because of your desire.  Mind on and hands-on is in the deal.  I see nothing but sound in the darkness.

A heartbeat wave rolls to shore.  My ancestors were nomadic.  From our fathers east, they trekked across frozen straits into the Americas slush long before it was so known.  Over generations, they wandered along coastlines, hunting and breeding.  Bravely they left their tribal families sown on the inland plains.  The light of the sun led them to the lowlands of the Yucatan peninsula.  They evolved through mortal traditions of hunting and foraging.  Time progressed them into an enlightenment of communal agriculture.  Basic foods in this area today derive from the crops of beans, corn and squash they domesticated in their 2500 B.C. world.

The labors of my lineage farmed and irrigated to feed their community of life.  Priests and merchants seeding life.  Wives and queens giving birth in the marshes washing aside a Mayan civilization.  My family made clay and paints under the watch of the sun.  Father observed the stars and planets and cycles of time.  He recorded events, led us in worship, oh night divine.

Our relatives built dwellings of home, alongside neighbors, around a plaza and traded with visitors from lands unknown to them.  Carvings and paintings of animals, gods and people, whispers telling us they lived.  They were here.

Links of history and family fade as one civilization breathes out and the next breathes in.  The family records etched on clay tablets crumble away.  As time crumbles, we are nomads still.  Our ancestor’s children told their children the family legends before the memories were shadows of once before.  A flutter of breeze drifts the salt and fog back to sea.

I have a heartbeat of family in this Belize.  My brothers and sisters swim in the sun, resting on the eternal sand.  Forever we laugh, dream under the same sky, and wish upon the same stars.

A princess I know has traveled to this land of Belize in recent times.  She swims in the reef.  Splashing in the sea as before this time, she visits her family with love.  Spirits and faces smile a welcome home.

This night is at peace with me.  I saw something in the sky in addition to a billion stars.  This was not bright like a star.  It did not shine.  I saw something.  It is there.  It is not here.  I am seeing things.

We want to grasp our vision closely, but cannot.  It is more clearly seen in distance.  We know it is yet not, yet we see it.

Visions of better days are preferred.  A child in school is said to be daydreaming.  We graduate to visionary at some point.  Our visions tend to be positive movies in which we star.  A movie project is planned and organized to present a story, a vision.  Movie making needs direction and control to get the story right.  We need vision.  We need the light, the action, the applause affirming our production of life.

Vision for all.  Take a look.  Take your pick.  Vision vision vision.  Everywhere you do look, people are seeing things.  What we see off there in the ether is not always foresight or formative.  But we are all seeing some things.  Vision is invisible.  You have to describe your vision to me.  Whatever I understand it to be; it is your vision.  The instant I see your vision it is changed.  Now I have a vision.  I will keep it to myself.

The vision gains its validation in you forming a plan, and the tender care you afford it proceeding to organize and direct and to control.  Most of us more easily remember the past than remember the future.  With the direction of time being a one-way street, we bow and go with the flow of time.  Neither memory nor vision is real.  We all see things differently.  No matter how you look at it, memory is not more accurate than vision.  Nothing you do today can change the past.  Everything you do today changes the future.  The vision is what you want.  The vision is where you want to go; it may not be where you are going now.

Vision is all-important.  It can be as awkward to discuss, as it is difficult to comprehend at times.  For each individual, our vision is right in front of us.  We look, and move forward toward it, as it moves forward away, always ahead of us.  We keep looking to see if it is what we think.  It is.

We need vision.  Vision is the creative light of what can be, hovering over the practical matter of what is.  We need a creative tension between the plan we are working on and the new we seek.  The business practicality of each day, planning, analyzing and correcting, is as vital as air.  These are necessary tasks to produce results today.  No matter how well performed, they will never produce a vision.  You may wonder where this all heads, if you are still awake in moments before the sunrise.

We are not to be fooled into thinking what we are seeing is real.  What you see is only what you see.  A problem of life is not solved merely in seeing, visibly in description.  Analysis is not to be mistaken for vision.  We may not want to change anything, even as we recognize a need for change.  This is as human as we are.  With the dawn, we just want to celebrate another day of life, another day of living.
